This position will assist the credit card function in the Bureau of Accounts Management. The incumbent will be mainly responsible for:
-Collecting monthly packages of supporting documentation for credit card charges;
-Capturing various credit card data into an Access database;
-Reviewing submitted packages to verify compliance with established rules;
-Filing and organizing supporting documenation;
-Following up with cardholders for timely documentation submission and card charge reconciliation in SFS using an established escalation process;
-Generating reports to support all the above and to satisfy management requests
Competitive Minimum Qualifications:
You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b/c program, or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 70.1 or 70.4 the Civil Service Law.
For 70.1 or 70.4 transfer to an Accountant Aide, salary grade (SG)-13, you must have one year of permanent competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in an approved title for transfer allocated to an SG-11 or above. SG-09 or above for a Trainee 2, SG-07 or above for a Trainee 1, depending on qualifications.
Additional Requirements:
You must have six credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses.
Non-Competitive Qualifications for appointment under the NYHELPS Program:
Accountant Aide:
Twelve semester credit hours of accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and either two years of gathering, preparing, and updating financial data, financial reports, and records; or reconciling data, reviewing accounting and auditing reports, and verifying accuracy of calculations, balances, and supporting documentation; or assisting accountants or auditors conducting financial and program audits by counting, verifying, and reconciling inventory and cash on hand, determining and verifying the accuracy and propriety of transactions, records, reports, and statements.
Accountant Aide Trainee 1 :
Six credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and either one year of experience gathering, preparing and updating financial data, financial reports, and records; or reconciling accounts and data, reviewing accounting and auditing reports, and verifying accuracy of calculations, balances, and supporting documentation; or assisting accountants or auditors conducting financial and program audits by counting, verifying, and reconciling inventory and cash on hand, determining and verifying the accuracy and propriety of transactions, records, reports, and statements.
Accountant Aide Trainee 2 :
Nine credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and either 18 months of experience gathering, preparing and updating financial data, financial reports, and records; or reconciling accounts and data, reviewing accounting and auditing reports, and verifying accuracy of calculations, balances, and supporting documentation; or assisting accountants or auditors conducting financial and program audits by counting, verifying, and reconciling inventory and cash on hand, determining and verifying the accuracy and propriety of transactions, records, reports, and statements.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with examining or reviewing transactions for appropriate supporting documentation and compliance with established guidance.
Experience with navigating and entering transactions in the Statewide Financial System (SFS). Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and intermediate skills in MS Suite, particularly Excel and Access.
New York State agencies, departments, and public authorities provide services across healthcare, engineering, administration, public safety, the trades, and other areas.
