The Adaptive Equipment Specialist assumes responsibility for maintaining the Orthotic/Prosthetic Department in a clean, sanitized and organized manner while maintaining stock of items and materials used in the fabrication of orthotic/prosthetic devices. The incumbent will assist clinicians with patient interactions which involve assessing patient’s orthotic and prosthetic needs, taking measurements, impressions for orthotic and prosthetic devices; all aspects of fabrication, maintenance, adjustment and/or repair of prosthetic/orthotic devices, and fitting the devices to patients, all under guidance/consultation with the clinician. Other duties as assigned.
Non-Competitive: Two years of experience designing and manufacturing adaptive equipment; or two years of skilled experience in carpentry or a related trade, one year of which must have been designing and manufacturing adaptive equipment for individuals.
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have two years of experience as an artisan, general mechanic or tradesperson. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to multitask and have direct professional interaction with persons with a variety of handicapping conditions.
Successful completion of education such as graduating from a CAAHEP/NCOPE accredited Orthotics and Prosthetics technical school program or formalized training related to a trade is preferred. Experience with sculpting, spackling, auto body or metalwork and the ability to weld is a preferred qualification.
