Civil Service Title- Area Supervisor (Highway Maintenance) I In order to be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title, or must have filed for the civil service exam # 7507, and provide proof.
The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City. This is a supervisory position involved in the maintenance of bridges, tunnels, and related structures.
The Area Supervisor Level I reports directly to the Area Supervisor Level
Employees must work days, evening, or night shifts as required.
Employees must visit each field crew at least once per shift.
Work Location 4200 VERNON BLVD, L.I.C., QUEENS, 11101 Hours 6:30am - 3:00pm/ Monday

Four years of full-time satisfactory experience as a working member of a roadway or bridge/tunnel maintenance and repair crew using asphalt and concrete mixes; and/or performing such tasks as debris/bulk removal; mechanical sweeping, drain/scupper cleaning on bridges/tunnels or related structures, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York with no restrictions on the use of air brakes. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Four years of full-time satisfactory experience as a working member of a roadway or bridge/tunnel maintenance and repair crew using asphalt and concrete mixes; and/or performing such tasks as debris/bulk removal; mechanical sweeping, drain/scupper cleaning on bridges/tunnels or related structures, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York with no restrictions on the use of air brakes. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
To be assigned to Assignment Level II, the candidate must have at least one year of experience working in Assignment Level I or an additional year of experience as described above under "Qualification Requirements", at least three years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
