Job description

Civil Service Title- Cement Mason This is a list call request * IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE OR BE REACHABLE ON THE OPEN-COMPETITIVE LIST.

Prepares and sets forms, mixes and lays cement and concrete, screeds and finishes cement or concrete to grade and contour as required, operates small power equipment and tools. Prepares material requisitions for specific job requirements, keeps job and other records, performs other related duties.

Preferred Skills This position requires extraordinary physical effort.

Preference will be given to candidate who possess a CDL A or B driver's license valid in the state of New York with no restrictions.

This license must be maintained throughout the duration of employment in this position. Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a cement mason; or
  • At least three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a cement mason, plus sufficient full-time satisfactory experience as a mason’s helper, or relevant training acquired in an approved trade school, technical school or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining experience. The school must be approved by a state’s Department of Education or comparable agency.

You will receive credit for six months of cement mason experience for each year of mason’s helper experience or approved training.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
