Job description

Civil Service Title- Supervisor Bridge Painter * IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE, OR BE REACHABLE ON THE OPEN-COMPETITIVE LIST.

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City.

Serves as Supervisor Bridge Painter in the Bridge Painting unit. Under general supervision, supervises the work of painting bridge structures including graffiti removal. Must assign, monitor and supervise a crew of bridge painters. Monitors and evaluates the performance of each painter to ensure that all work undertaken is in accordance with agency, city, state, federal and OSHA guidelines. Responsible for recording and maintaining daily crew logs, operations, and other related administrative duties at the request of the Director or Deputy Director of the Bridge Painting unit. Will supervise and direct rigging and scaffolding operations. Responsible for the safety of assigned personnel. Performs other related duties.

Preferred Skills Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. Six years of full-time satisfactory experience in painting bridges, towers, tanks, and other elevated structures where rigging and scaffolding are used.

Work Location 390 KENT AVE, BROOKLYN, 11211 Hours 7:00AM - 3:00PM/Monday

License Requirement: At the time of appointment, eligible must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License valid in the State of New York, with no restrictions. This License with no restrictions must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Preferred Skills

Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. Six years of full-time satisfactory experience in painting bridges, towers, tanks, and other elevated structures where rigging and scaffolding are used.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
