Executive/Executive Litigation & Policy Group
Working closely with the ELPG Chief and senior Law Department leadership, the Deputy Chief will assist in managing a team of attorneys responsible for both counseling and litigation functions in matters with significant revenue and programmatic implications for the City of New York. This includes the commencement and defense of complex and high-impact litigation within the group’s purview, spanning areas such as administrative, constitutional, and municipal law. The counseling work focuses on federal grants and emerging regulatory and enforcement areas of law, and entails preparing briefing materials and presentations, maintaining reports and information trackers, and drafting guidance documents. In addition to managing a portfolio of significant matters, the Deputy Chief will help oversee litigation strategy, coordinate across city, state, and federal government agencies and non-governmental stakeholders, and manage the development of legal and policy positions in response to federal regulatory and enforcement actions affecting citywide operations. The Deputy Chief will also assist with strategic planning, personnel management, attorney development, and operational oversight of the group.
Minimum Qualification Requirements: Candidates must have at least 10 years of legal experience following graduation from an ABA accredited law school and be admitted to the practice of law in New York State. They must be admitted or eligible for immediate admission to the SDNY and EDNY. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional legal writing, analytical, and advocacy skills, along with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex legal positions effectively to various stakeholders in both litigation and advisory contexts. Substantial experience with complex or high-stakes litigation – particularly affirmative litigation – and/or deep familiarity with municipal law is strongly preferred. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a history of successful supervision and management of attorneys and legal support professionals.
