Job description

The Agency You’ll Join: The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. The administration is leading the fight in making the city more affordable, reducing inequality, improving public safety, ensuring delivery of efficient and effective services, and working to make New York City’s economy stronger. The Team You’ll Work With: The Mayor’s Office of Administrative Services is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Mayor’s Office and agencies under City Hall. Facilities, Construction Management and Operations is responsible for overseeing and managing facilities within all Mayor’s Office locations. Our priorities include but are not limited to space management, office seating, custodial needs, supply requests, records management, and mailroom and messenger service. Our goal is to ensure offices operate efficiently and effectively throughout Mayor’s Office campuses.

The Problems You’ll Solve: The Mailroom messenger responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure security of incoming/outgoing packages and supplies in the mailroom.
  • Track packages using FedEx and UPS.
  • Knowledge of sorting mail using a containment box.
  • Daily mail pickup/delivery to the post office.
  • Daily drop-offs to UPS and /or FedEx.
  • Mail delivery within the five boroughs.
  • Assist with office moves of boxes and materials About You:
  • You can commit to equity, effectiveness, and sustainability to guide our employees and provide City agencies with the critical resources and support needed to succeed.
  • You have a valid driver’s license.
  • You have knowledge of all 5 Boroughs via vehicle or train.

Additional Information

  • In addition to the resume, a cover letter is required to apply.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.

Preferred Skills

  • You have good listening skills and can take initiative.
  • You can work well with others.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of the interview.
