Job description

Hours: Full- Time- 35 Hours Work Location: 30-30 Thomson Avenue, LIC, NY 11101 Only candidates who are permanent in the Project Manager title or those who are reachable on the Open Competitive List (Exam #4076) may apply. Please include a copy of your Notice of Results or indicate if you are already permanent in the title. The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure is seeking a Coordinator (Sustainability) to join the Sustainable Coordination team.

The selected candidate will support the agency in planning and implementing sustainable, resilient, and equitable design and construction. PlaNYC 2023 has set social, economic, and environmental objectives to ensure the sustainable future of New York, while preparing for climate change and reducing our impacts. Advancing the division’s sustainability goals will include a mix of data analysis, creating tools and guidelines, conducting workshops and presentations, and coordinating with internal and external entities.

In addition, the Coordinator (Sustainability) will assist with Envision project certifications through Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI).

This position requires work with a variety of project stakeholders including engineers, architects, landscape architects, operators, and community boards where excellent communication and client service skills are required. The selected candidate will also assist with analyzing Infrastructure design and master planning for sustainable design, and help develop policies to support design excellence; assist in identifying risks and design issues for various infrastructure projects; assist with the division’s varied portfolio of capital projects; and maintain and update the agency’s database on Infrastructure projects use of various sustainable features.

Lastly, the candidate will support projects throughout the scoping, design, procurement, and construction phases; utilize the agency’s technical resources to ensure that their projects meet DDC’s Commitment Plan objectives; apprise their supervisors of scheduling, construction, and design issues; liaise between contractor and DDC; maintain comprehensive project history files; and coordinate project schedules.

Please note: All candidates must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.). In compliance with Public Law 99-603, candidates are required to present original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work in the U.S. DDC is unable to support or sponsor any visa application or visa extension, including but not limited to OPT/STEM visas, H-1B visas, F-1 practical training, permanent residence sponsorship, or any proposed change of visa type. Minimum Qualifications

1.A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration, and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting, for engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects; or

  • A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described in "1" above; or
  • A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus any combination of the experience and/or college education as described in "1" above to make up the equivalent of five years of education and experience. One year of credit will be given for each 30 semester credits of college education leading to a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration.

Preferred Skills

Please note the following preferred skills for this position:

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Project management knowledge relevant to infrastructure work (i.e., roadway, sewer, and/or water main)
  • Should demonstrate to be detail orientated, with the ability to manage projects and complete multiple multi-trade projects on schedule.
  • Experience with stormwater management projects, as well as a background in sustainable and resilient design and rating systems.
  • Proficient in Primavera P6 scheduling and Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential (preferred).
  • Valid driver's license (optional but highly recommended).
  • Personal vehicle (optional).

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
