Crew Chief, Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Division of Environmental Health works to prevent and control illness and injury related to environmental and occupational health risks through outreach, education, surveillance and enforcement.

With staff of 1,000, the Division covers a broad range of subject matter, including oversight of environmental investigations, lead poisoning, injury prevention, occupational health, food safety, childcare, radiation control, recreational and drinking water quality, air quality, climate health, vector control, veterinary public health and pest control. The Division of Environmental Health seeks a Crew Chief for its Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services.

Duties Will Include But Not Be Limited to:

Supervises work details to crew members, Re-assess site to determine if it provides a safe working environment for staff. Provides and/or arranges transportation for the crew and enters the day's work into the handheld. Checks and maintains tool and equipment used in the field. Checks daily that all necessary safety materials and other supplies are on the site Using the Burrow Rx machine and geomesh (Excluder) materials PREFERRED SKILLS: Knowledge of pest control and a valid Driver's license is a plus.

• High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
• Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
