Job description

The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (“BXDA”) is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By “Pursuing Justice with Integrity,” the BXDA places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants. Moreover, the BXDA aims to balance the need to seek appropriate punishment for certain crimes while recognizing when punitive measures do not adequately advance justice. By recognizing these significant distinctions and acting accordingly, BXDA has established a standard of excellence in the representation of the Bronx community at large, which continues to grow stronger every day.

In furtherance of this mission, the BXDA seeks an experienced and enthusiastic Data Visualization Analyst Level to join the Strategic Planning & Analytics Bureau. Strategic Planning & Analytics uses data, research, and analytics to support evidence-based decision-making, measure performance, evaluate policies and initiatives, and promote transparency. The Data Visualization Analyst will develop and maintain dashboards, automated reports, and other data products that translate complex criminal justice data into clear, actionable information for Office leadership, staff, policymakers, and external audiences. The ideal candidate combines strong communication and technical skills, including querying, analyzing, and preparing data for analysis and presentation.

Job Responsibilities: Specific duties includes but not limited to the following:

  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and other data visualization products.
  • Translate complex data and analytic findings into clear dashboards, charts, tables, reports, and presentations for non-technical audiences.
  • Apply data visualization and storytelling principles to communicate trends, performance measures, and policy-relevant findings.
  • Work with analysts, data engineers, and Office stakeholders to identify reporting needs, define measures, and develop useful data products.
  • Query, clean, transform, validate, and analyze data using SQL, R, Stata, and related tools.
  • Develop and maintain automated and reproducible processes for dashboards, recurring reports, and data extracts.
  • Assess data quality and suitability for analysis and reporting.
  • Support ad hoc analyses and recurring reporting on Office performance, caseloads, case processing, programs, and strategic priorities.
  • Perform other related analytic and data visualization projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in data analytics, data science, statistics, economics, public policy, social sciences, information systems, data visualization, or a related field.
  • At least two years of professional experience in data analysis, business intelligence, data visualization, research, or a related field; public-sector or criminal justice experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing interactive dashboards in Power BI is strongly preferred.
  • Experience using SQL to query relational databases.
  • Experience using R and/or Stata for data cleaning, analysis, automation, or reporting.
  • Experience developing automated or reproducible reporting processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with research methods, descriptive statistics, performance measurement, and quantitative analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively with technical, legal, operational, and senior staff.
