Duties: As a Dental Hygienist, you would perform any of the allowable services in accordance with Section 6606 of the New York State Education Law, under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist providing compassionate oral care for the developmentally disabled population.
You would perform preliminary exams, prophylaxis, scaling and curettage, as well as take x-rays, and administer fluoride, SDF treatments and sealants.
Charting of existing dental history and noting the areas of deterioration which need repair.
An important part of your duties would be in-office education of patients and/or their aides. You would work collaboratively with the dental assistant when available and assist the dentist, when needed, with chair-side procedures.
Maintenance of all tools and equipment in compliance with OSHA Standards.
Maintain current routine compliance documentation. Purchase any needed supplies. Some travel to alternate location would be required to provide service in both locations. Interaction daily with individuals and staff and on occasion with family/guardians/service coordinators/nursing staff and primary care physicians.

Open Competitive:
Possession of a license and current registration to practice dental hygiene in New York State.
Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1, 70.4, or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades.
