The Environmental Educator Assistant for Stony Brook will be responsible for four main areas:
- Education
- Teacher Training assistance
- Public Outreach and
- Education staff Support Duties
- Education: Teach programs independently in school classrooms, as well as conduct programs for adults and the general public in both indoor and outdoor settings.
- Teacher Training Assistance: Help education staff set up and conduct educator workshops using national environmental education programs such as Project WILD, Learning Tree and WET (Water Education for Teachers)
- Public Outreach: Speak with the public at fairs, festivals, or other public events on the mission and goals of NYSDEC and to educate the public about environment and natural resources.
- Support: Assist education staff with answering questions from the public, scheduling programs, creating lesson plans, filing documents, maintaining living collections, artifacts and supplies. May be required to lift and carry boxes and display materials necessary for educational programs.
Minimum Qualifications
one year of experience in environmental education programs; or one year college study with specialization in natural science, natural resources, or environmental education.
