Day Habilitation offers several activities to choose from, and selected candidate should be able to instruct those in gardening, cooking/baking, music appreciation, self-advocacy, social skills, fitness, pet care, budgeting, work skills development, arts and crafts, reading, clothing, sensory activities and activities of daily living.
It is the philosophy of Day Habilitation that courses offered will be integrated in the least restrictive environment and in the community setting as much as possible.
Therefore, the majority of the Day Habilitation will not occur “within the walls” of the program.
Instructs and supports individuals in developing and/or enhancing life skills necessary to live more independently in home and community settings; and develops, implements, and modifies habilitation plans to help individuals achieve their valued outcomes.
Additional duties include but not limited to:
Person will be responsible for scheduling outings, Day Hab paperwork, ensuring the safety and welfare of the individuals, completing Day Hab billing and documents in a timely manner and engaging individuals in activities and work-related activities.
Completion of other assigned tasks based on the operational needs of the site location.

Competitive Minimum Qualifications:
Must be on the Civil Service eligible list for this location.
Transfer Qualifications:
Must be in title or eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 in a designated title determined by the New York State Department of Civil Service.

*For the purpose of these qualifications, a degree in a human service field includes the professional disciplines of audiology, community mental health, nursing, nutrition, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, vocational counseling, social work, speech/language pathology and therapeutic recreation (including concentrations in art, creative art, dance, drama, music, or physical education.) Also included are related academic disciplines associated with the study of human behavior (e.g., gerontology, human services, sociology, speech communication); or human skills development (e.g., counseling/guidance, education, human development.) Examples of non-qualifying degrees include but are not limited to: criminal justice, political science, liberal arts, and business.
New York State agencies, departments, and public authorities provide services across healthcare, engineering, administration, public safety, the trades, and other areas.
