Job summary

The Health Information Management Administrator 1 (HIMA1) runs and supervises the Health Information Management (HIM) Department within the Quality Improvement Department. The Health Information Department is vital to the health and safety of the individuals served as it maintains all essential documents and records. It is imperative that records are maintained and accessible for the overall clinical and medical care of the individuals. Maintaining the integrity of confidentiality and releasing records within the governing laws is the secondary purpose of the HIM department.

Primary Duties and Respinsibilities:

  • Provide Individual clinical / medical record management guidance to DDSO.
  • Review all requests for information to ensure compliance with HIPPA and Johnathan's Law.
  • Prepare and release request for information consistent with HIPPA and Johnathan's Law.
  • Work with Central Office Counsel's Office and multiple community team to complete all litigation holds.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date agency census.
  • Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of all clinical and medical records.

-Develop policies related to Health Information Management including the organization of records, release of information and

  • Train and teach direct care staff, clinical staff and administrative staff on how to organize books and records within the homes and programs.
  • Serves as HIPPA Liaison and Language Access Liaison.

-File Medical records and maintain documentation of records.

  • Maintain record of discharge from services.
  • Maintain and updates Developmental Disability Profile for agency.
  • Liaisons with multiple teams to obtain medical records in an organized manner while maintaining the confidentiality of the individual.
  • Serves as TABS Coordinator.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Open Competitive:

Current certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Management Technician with two years of post-college experience.

Transfer:

Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1, 70.4, or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades.
