Job summary

Hours: Full-Time Position – 35 Hours Work Location: 30-30 Thomson Avenue, LIC, NY 11101 Only candidates who are permanent in the Civil Engineering Intern title, or those who filed for the open-competitive exam #6116 may apply. The Department of Design & Construction, Division of Infrastructure, is currently seeking a Junior Engineer to join our Construction Management 2 – South Queens – Section 2 team.

The successful candidate will be provided with hands-on training and will contribute to a range of engineering tasks, from moderate to complex. Responsibilities include construction inspection, construction management, engineering investigations, and assessments related to various engineering functions.

Additionally, the candidate will carry out civil engineering tasks of moderate complexity under the supervision of an Engineer-In-Charge and/or Resident Engineer. The scope of work and training encompasses one or more of the following specialized areas: construction management, engineering investigations, cost estimation, specification interpretation, engineering calculations, conducting field inspections, and participating in contract negotiations and dispute resolutions.

Applicants must be ACI Concrete Field -Testing and OSHA 10-hour Certified or take the first available DDC-offered training session.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college. A degree in any other engineering area or in civil engineering technology is not acceptable.

Preferred Skills

Please note the following preferred skills for this position:

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Acrobat, and AutoCAD
  • Construction knowledge relevant to infrastructure work (i.e., roadway, sewer, and/or water main)
  • Knowledge of applicable engineering standards, and some familiarity with NYC DOT, NYS DOT, NYC DEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards
  • General understanding of the NYC infrastructure system and current engineering practices
  • An understanding of project scheduling and management tools such as Primavera P6 or MS Project.
  • Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential (Optional)
  • Valid driver's license (Required)
  • Personal vehicle (Preferred)
