Job description

Hours: Full-Time – 35 Hours Work Location: 30-30 Thomson Avenue, LIC, NY 11101 Only candidates who are permanent in the Civil Engineering Intern title or those who are reachable on the open-competitive list (exam #5047) or filed for the open-competitive exam #6116 may apply. The Department of Design & Construction, Division of Infrastructure, is currently seeking Junior Engineers to join our Design Unit – Section

  • Successful candidates will be provided with hands-on training and will contribute to a range of engineering tasks, from moderate to complex. Responsibilities include conducting research studies, engineering investigations, and assessments related to various engineering functions.

Additionally, the candidates will carry out civil engineering tasks of moderate complexity under the supervision of an Engineer-In-Charge. The scope of work and training encompasses one or more of the following specialized areas: design, drafting, engineering investigations, cost estimation, specification writing, structural calculations, conducting field surveys, and participating in design-related site inspections.

Please note: All candidates must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.). In compliance with Public Law 99-603, candidates are required to present original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work in the U.S. DDC is unable to support or sponsor any visa application or visa extension, including but not limited to OPT/STEM visas, H-1B visas, F-1 practical training, permanent residence sponsorship, or any proposed change of visa type. DDC does not offer a training program as required by U.S. immigration law and is not hiring temporary employees. Candidates must have proper work authorization when an employment offer is made.

Additionally, educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution. Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service. Minimum Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college. A degree in any other engineering area or in civil engineering technology is not acceptable.

Preferred Skills

Please note the following preferred skills for this position:

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
  • Construction knowledge relevant to infrastructure work (i.e., roadway, sewer, and/or water main)
  • Familiarity with NYC DOT, NYS DOT, NYC DEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards
  • Comprehensive understanding of the NYC infrastructure system and current engineering practices
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling and Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential (preferred)
  • Valid driver's license (required)
  • Personal vehicle (optional)

Residency Requirement

New York City Residency is not required for this position.
