The Maintenance Supervisor 2 (Motor Equipment) may supervise one or more Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Motor Equipment), Service & Repair Mechanics (Motor Equipment) and other skilled and semi-skilled maintenance employees.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).*
To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
Promotional: One year of permanent competitive, non-competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS**, or 55-b/55 c service as follows:
Either A. a Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Motor Equipment) (or Motor Equipment Maintenance Supervisor 1)
Or B. a Motor Equipment Storeskeeper or Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment) (or Motor Equipment Mechanic)
Open Competitive: Two years of experience supervising staff engaged in the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of gasoline and/or diesel-powered motor equipment, including passenger vehicles, construction and heavy equipment, freight and other commercial cargo vehicles, self-propelled off-road equipment, and non-self-propelled motor equipment.
At the time of appointment, you must have a Class B Commercial Driver's license with no airbrake restriction, a certification by the Department of Motor Vehicles to conduct NYS inspections, and a New York State Heavy Motor Vehicle Inspection License.
Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
