Job description

The Department of Small Business Services (SBS) helps unlock economic potential and create economic security for all New Yorkers by connecting New Yorkers to good jobs, creating stronger businesses, and building a fairer economy in neighborhoods across the five boroughs.

Key Essential Functions: The Mobile Outreach Driver will report to the Executive Director of Facilities and Operations. The Driver will drive SBS’s Mobile Outreach Unit (MOU) to various outreach events throughout the 5 boroughs while ensuring the vehicle maintains a state of cleanliness and good working order. When not driving the MOU, this individual will be assigned tasks as part of the agency’s authorized Fleet drivers and will also assist with various facilities related task including but not limited to performing pickups and deliveries of items and routine clerical tasks.

Job Responsibilities: Mobile Outreach

  • Respond to all requests, both internal and external for use of the MOU.
  • Review site selection, timing, and operational hours to ensure optimal use and safety of the MOU
  • Plot the route, ensuring compliance with all motor vehicles laws and restrictions
  • Correctly file for all permits and variances needed with the appropriate City Agencies.
  • Ensure MOU is fully operational and all necessary ancillary supplies/equipment is loaded
  • Ensure MOU is fully stocked with PPE, and relevant promotional materials.

Fleet Responsibilities

  • Drive the Commissioner, taking him to and from all events, meetings, and other official activities.
  • Relocate pool vehicles when necessary
  • Bring pool vehicles to and from the mechanic or car wash
  • Fueling of vehicles
  • Updating fleet database, as needed
  • Drive staff to and from events Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist facilities unit with pick-ups and deliveries of equipment and supplies

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements: There are no formal education or experience requirements.

Driver License Requirement: By the time you are appointed to this position, you must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. If you have moving violations, license suspension(s) or an accident record, you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.

Preferred Skills

  • Must have valid Class B- NYS CDL
  • Knowledge of vehicles maintenance and operations
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
