Under the supervision of higher-level staff, the Park Supervisor 1 is a working supervisor responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the maintenance and operations activities at Shirley Chisholm State Park.
Under the supervision of higher-level staff, the Park Supervisor 1 is a working supervisor responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the maintenance and operations activities at Shirley Chisholm State Park. The Park Supervisor 1 performs a variety of administrative duties; plans, assigns, and assists with the completion of work projects; develop and implement programs and services for the public; and may occasionally function as the first or second-in-command when needed. The Park Supervisor 1 supervises permanent, temporary, and seasonal personnel; orients new staff and trains subordinate staff as needed; schedules and assigns work, providing clear directions and guidelines; inspects work to ensure it is completed within allotted time frames and in accordance with codes, regulations, and safety standards. Completes performance evaluations and discusses performance expectations with employees in a timely manner.
The Park Supervisor 1 provides technical direction to staff under the direction of higher-level managers.

AND one year of supervisory experience in the construction, operation or maintenance of a park or recreational facility within a park. **
**a park or recreational facility within a park is defined as a location that offers at least three of the following elements: ballfields, campgrounds, golf courses, hiking trails, historic structures, marinas, picnic areas, playgrounds, recreation programs, swimming facilities or education, environmental or interpretive programming. You must clearly list this information on your application.
Note: If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.
*For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
