Job description

Duties of the Park Worker 3 will include but not be limited to:

  • Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities in a variety of trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs.
  • Perform building and ground maintenance and cleaning activities.
  • Operate and perform routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, line trimmers, and power saws.
  • Operate and perform routine maintenance on a variety of mechanical systems including fire detection and protection system, HVAC, and water treatment system.
  • Assist with pruning and tree trimming activities involving the operation of chain saw, stump grinder, bucket truck, and chipper.
  • Assist with traffic control and parking of vehicles.
  • Assist in building and repairing roads, paths, picnic tables, benches, trails, and park equipment.
  • Assign, supervise, review, train, and evaluate work of lower-level employees.
  • Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices, assisting, and directing staff, and working with patrons to minimize potential problems.
  • Maintain records including those pertaining to daily maintenance, Automated External Defibrillator, and personal timekeeping.
  • Assist in snow removal, shoveling, and operate vehicles to plow snow during the winter months.
  • Act independently with a minimal amount of direct supervision.
  • Assist and direct staff and work with patrons to enforce park rules and ensure proper customer service.
  • Assist in other areas of park operations as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;

OR

  • One year of experience in any of the following fields:
  • Law enforcement or security
  • Firefighting
  • Emergency Medical Services
  • Environmental education or stewardship
  • Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
  • Historic preservation or interpretation
  • Landscaping or grounds maintenance

OR

  • One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;

OR

  • Thirty (30) semester credit hours* of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university;

OR

  • Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;

OR

  • Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.

*Your credit hours must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
