Direct, coordinate, and complete administrative and/or acquisition related surveys either through in-house staff or through consultant contracts.
Prepare and furnish materials for land acquisitions, title inquires and defense of state land boundaries.
Support Regional staff, DEC Office of General Counsel, Attorney General in trespass enforcement actions.
Work cooperatively with forestry, wildlife, fisheries, and other land managers and assist with maintaining boundary lines, land ownership records, and the administration of conservation easements.
In addition to land surveying duties, a senior land surveyor should have the skills necessary to respond to any real estate program needs.
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
To be eligible for appointment under NY HELPS, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications below:
Promotion: Possession of a New York State Land Surveyor’s license and current registration and one year of service as an Assistant Land Surveyor.
Open Competitive: Possession of a New York State Land Surveyor’s license and current Registration.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in title research, the use of CAD, land surveying software, GPS equipment and software, and GIS software is preferred.
