Job description

Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center (KFPC) is recruiting for a Psychiatrist 1 or Psychiatrist 2 to provide a full range of care and treatment to individuals incarcerated in the State and County Correctional System. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.

As a Psychiatrist at KFPC, you will be part of a diverse interdisciplinary team focused on providing culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and evidence based treatment including:

  • Performing psychiatric screenings, evaluations, and examinations.
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and procedures, diagnosing, and treating various psychiatric conditions.
  • Administering psychiatric treatments, medications, and therapies. Conducting follow-up exams and modifying treatments as needed.
  • Collaborating with other licensed physicians and healthcare providers on diagnoses and treatment plans, and approves treatment recommendations.
  • Competency restoration.
  • Correctional mental health services.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program if they have:

Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).

Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.

OR

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
