Job description

Manhattan Psychiatric Center (MPC), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission accredited facility, is recruiting Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrists for their inpatient unit that serves individuals who have not achieved sufficient stability for discharge and require extended inpatient treatment.

As a Psychiatrist at MPC, you will provide comprehensive, patient-centered, and recovery- focused treatments to individuals with mental health symptoms 18 years of age or older; including:

  • Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments and patient admissions
  • Overseeing an average caseload of 13 - 15 individuals
  • Creating treatment plans including medication management
  • Obtaining and reviewing appropriate laboratory tests and consulting with members of treatment team as needed
  • Providing individual and group psychotherapy
  • Supporting challenging psychiatric rehabilitation efforts
  • Participating in complex discharge planning

MPC is a comprehensive, community-based mental health facility serving individuals who are 18 years or older, from the Manhattan and Greater NYC Region. MPC’s focus on evidence-based, person-centered, and culturally sensitive treatment helps their patient achieve their recovery goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program if they have:

Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).

Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.

OR

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
