Job description

Position Description:

The person selected for the Recreation Therapist position will be developing, planning, and managing recreational services. Duties include leading person-centered activities, coordinating community inclusion opportunities, participating in community inclusion activities, organizing recreation resources and monthly calendar of events for assigned homes. The Recreation Therapist will have continuous communication with treatment team and maintain regular contact with house recreation liaisons.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

not limited to:

  • Assist homes in Staten Island to set up their in-home recreation calendars.
  • Provide in-home groups/activities for those who do not attend day program (Daytime duties).
  • Provide in-home groups and community inclusion activities (PM hours).
  • Assist Senior Recreation Therapist in larger community inclusive activities.
  • Assist in completing the monthly calendar, uploading documentation to EHR, weekly data checks, planning vacations and community event packet. Serve as advisor for Self-Advocacy Group
  • Assist in Olympics trainings, events, and tournaments (i.e. Bowling, Track & Field, Hiking, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

Either

  • a bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation;

Or

  • a bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education or Adaptive Physical Education AND one year of experience in planning and administering a therapeutic recreation program which involved developing and coordinating therapeutic recreational activities for geriatric patients/residents, individuals with developmental disabilities, individuals with psychiatric disabilities, individuals that are physically challenged, or individuals in treatment for chemical dependency;

Or

  • current credentials as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) issued by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC), 7 Elmwood Drive, New City, NY

Transfer:

Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1, 70.4, or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades.
