Infection Control Nurses at New York Psychiatric Institute are proficient in evidence-based nursing practices and function as liaisons between all departments and Infection Control Committees responsible for infection control and prevention services ensuring adherence to all infection control policies and procedures.
Additional duties include:
- Collaborating with multi-disciplinary treatment teams to mitigate potential for infectious disease.
- Developing infection control risk assessment and plan along with educational programs for staff and patients.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of the infection control program and revising as needed.
- Leading annual flu prevention, treatment, and reporting.
- Completing of documentation and preparing comprehensive reports.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they are:
- Licensed and currently registered as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and
- 2 years of post-licensure nursing experience. One year of this experience must have been primarily working in the development, implementation, or administration of an infection control program.
Substitution:
- A master’s degree in nursing may substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience
- A doctorate in nursing may substitute for two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.
- Possession of a current Certified in Infection Control (CIC) certificate issued by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology may substitute for the one year of infection control program experience.

Candidates within State Service can be considered transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
