Job description

The Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 is responsible for a large number of individuals which involves direct and indirect supervision of professional and clinical staff. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring implementation of facility policies and procedures, initiating special investigations, scheduling staff, directing staff, and evaluating performance and probation assessment of staff. They will also be responsible for performing admission and readmission assessments and responding to change in clinical conditions. The Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 will provide clinical leadership and support to nursing staff. The employee will be entrusted with stewardship over narcotics, and act as administrator on duty in the absence of administrator/Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing. They will audit clinical records and monitor documentation. The incumbent will meet with nursing personnel on a regular basis to plan, implement and evaluate nursing activities and ensure all personnel involved in delivery care are familiar with the plans of cares.

Minimum Qualifications

Reassignment: NYS Department of Health Veterans Home at Montrose employee with permanent or contingent permanent status as a Registered Nurse Supervisor I.

Transfers: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service that is eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Registered Nurse Supervisor

Promotion Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must meet one of the following minimum qualifications: Be a current NYS Department of Health employee with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as either

  • A Registered Nurse 2 (and all parenthetic) or Registered Nurse 3 (and all parenthetic); and must have possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State

Or

2.Two years of service in any Grade 18 or higher position that requires a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State.

If less than three interested and qualified New York State Department of Health employees serving in the direct-line, lower-level title(s) within the agency apply to this opportunity, the agency may make a non-competitive appointment under the NY HELPS program.

Open Competitive HELPS qualifications: Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

Substitution: A master’s degree in nursing may substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a doctorate in nursing may substitute for two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate should have experience with the geriatric populations and experience as a supervisor .
