Job description

The Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 (Rehabilitation) acts as an administrative link and supervises the overall provision of nursing care on all inpatient disability units. . In the absence of the Director of Nursing, serves as a resource. They will collaborate with and support the Nurse Managers and Nursing Supervisors, including engagement during off-shift hours. They will require working off-shift hours as directed to ensure consistent employee support, leadership visibility, and engagement across all shifts. The incumbent will supervise and oversee the Nursing Staffing office. They provide supervision to employees; works with Nursing Administration to plan, establish and assure achievement of department goals, policies and procedures.

The RN Supervisor 1 (Rehab) will prepare for annual Department of Health Surveys. They will coordinate all nursing and patient activities and collaborate with the Infection Prevention Nurse, Staff Development Coordinator, Nursing Performance Improvement Coordinator, Minimum Data Set Coordinator and Director of Quality/Outcome Management and other Nursing Administrative Indicators as needed. The RN Supervisor 1 (Rehab) will be responsible for staffing, and covering absences on all shifts necessary. They will supervise on a rotating basis and complete probation reports, annual evaluations and submit timesheets in a timely manner. They will work closely with the Human Resources department regarding employee relations.

Minimum Qualifications

Reassignment: Current New York State Department of Health Helen Hayes Hospital employee with permanent or contingent permanent status as a Registered Nurse Supervisor I Rehab.

Transfers: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service that is eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Registered Nurse Supervisor I Rehab.

Promotion Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must meet one of the following minimum qualifications: Be a current NYS Department of Health employee with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service if they have possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State and two years of service in any Grade 18 or higher position that requires a registered professional nurse license; or one year of service in any Grade 20 or higher position that requires a registered professional nurse license.

Open Competitive HELPS qualifications: Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience in an acute rehabilitation, acute inpatient critical care, or medical surgical setting.

**Substitution: A master’s degree in nursing may substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a doctorate in nursing may substitute for two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Bachelor of Science (BS) in health services. They will have 2 years of administrative oversight of direct patient care nursing staff. The preferred candidate will be assertive and self-directed with knowledge of Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) regulations, Patient Review Instrument (PRIs), Minimum Data Set _MDS), Department of Health's annual surveys and have good communication skills. They will have 5 years of managerial experience in staffing, scheduling, and employee relations.

They will Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to support staff and promote continuity of nursing operations across all shifts. Demonstrated commitment to advancing organizational priorities and supporting administrative and strategic goals.
