The Natural Resources Group’s mission is to protect, restore, expand, and manage New York City’s over 12,000 acres of natural spaces and green infrastructure across the five boroughs, including forests, grasslands and wetlands.¿ Major Responsibilities
- Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent judgment and initiative, work closely with program supervision to create, coordinate and implement administrative needs for the program.
- Oversee and support the Project Development Coordinator to call in planting sites for 811 codes and submit for any other necessary permits for site excavation and planting and other related responsibilities.
- Work closely with supervision, Purchasing and Accounting (P&A), Fleet, and vendors to ensure purchasing needs are researched, implemented and managed as needed.
- Coordinate with program supervision to process old and new fleet. Work with Fleet and vendors to keep documentation up to date as needed.
- Track and organize budget modifications for OMB tracking and internal budget needs.
- Assist with program development and provide trainings for staff.
- In collaboration with program supervision, facilitate and track the completion of required trainings for staff.
- Work closely with supervision and Senior Forester to assist/create route locations for work crews and prioritize work when necessary.
- Assist with external agencies, such as the New York City Department of Transportation's (NYC DOT) and the Department of Design and Construction (DDC) to coordinate ongoing projects related to construction in the right of way.
- Perform data entry, ensuring that all data is entered accurately, and information is organized and easily retrievable.
- Prepare briefings and materials for meetings, compile data, and produce reports using data and information supplied by managers and supervisors.
- Assist managers with analytical needs through timely reporting and accurate statistical analysis.
- Provide general office support.
- Process and route correspondence to appropriate staff, verify information and track phone calls.
- Attend agency, inter-agency, and external meetings as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
- High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Preferred Skills
- Certification as an Arborist from the International Society of Arboriculture.
- Excellent management, administrative and communication skills.
- Experience planning, coordinating and/or supervising forestry programs.
- Available to work evenings and weekends.
- Valid New York State driver license.
Residency Requirement
Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service.
New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
