The NYC Department of Design & Construction, Division of Public Buildings, seeks a Design Reviewer (Electrical). The selected candidate will perform a comprehensive review of design and/or constructability documents from consultant engineering services and In-house design for DDC’s capital construction program. The Design Reviewer will be responsible for: project scoping, design and/or constructability review of consultant drawings and specifications (utilizing Blue-Beam), site inspections and reports, ad hoc technical investigations; condition surveys; in-house design (utilizing AutoCAD and BIM), lighting calculations and providing technical expertise and support services for client-agency projects. The candidate will interface with clients, consultants, contractors, and technical staff.

Candidate should have a thorough understanding of building electrical and lighting systems, equipment and assemblies of both modern energy-efficient equipment and obsolete equipment still in use in older buildings. Expertise in forensic diagnosis of deterioration, distress, and failure issues is highly desirable. An up-to-date understanding of equipment cost is highly desirable. At least 5 years of prior relevant field inspection experience is required. This position requires a person with the physical ability to conduct site visits, including accessing stairs, catwalks, ladders, rooftops, and basements within multi-level buildings, and to maneuver through confined spaces. The candidate must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. A valid motor vehicle driver’s license is required.
