Job description

The Bureau of Technical Support (BTS) is a developing unit within the OPWDD Division of Statewide Services, established to improve the health and safety of people with developmental disabilities. The BTS accomplishes this by providing consultation, training, and professional resources to voluntary providers/programs to increase their capacity to safely and effectively serve people who have complex behavioral needs, connect them with vital community resources, and navigate system complexities that may have been impeding service provision.

The work of the Senior Field Clinician, and the bureau under the Director's leadership, meets the core mission of OPWDD by addressing the 3 main priorities outlined in the Commissioner's strategic plan: 1) supporting people in the most person-centered ways, 2) strengthen the workforce, and 3) improve the service system across the state. The Senior Field Clinician will join a statewide team of clinicians to provide a full range of consultation services.

The Senior Field Clinician will be responsible for their field team’s coordinated review and delivery of technical assistance using evidence-informed best practices, a trauma-informed and responsive approach, and commitment to cultural humility, through duties including but not limited to:

  • Supporting voluntary providers/programs to prevent imminent crisis through provision of case consultation, professional mentorship, training, and program monitoring.
  • Assisting voluntary providers in their development of individualized and agency-wide strategies by synthesizing information from a variety of sources to identify a case conceptualization, root cause(s), and available resources in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Conducting on-site observations and engagement as indicated and directed, to enable effective consultation.
  • Drafting consultation reports to include formal recommendations, referrals, and treatment alternatives.
  • Development and delivery of training on clinically relevant topics.
  • Preparing written reports and other written documentation as assigned.
  • Providing administrative supervision to other field team specialists.
  • Participating in committees and work groups.
  • Travel as assigned to complete on-site observations, attend meetings, and to support bureau operations. Travel percentage is an estimated average of 60% or more; actual travel time may vary to support the needs of the bureau and division.
  • Other duties as assigned to support bureau and divisional operations.

*Telecommuting to be discussed at time of interview.
