The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Department's main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. The Fire Department, City of New York FDNY, seeks a full-time Roofer in the Bureau of Facilities Management. Reporting directly to the Supervisor of Carpenter, the successful candidate will: Roofers, under supervision, repair and maintain roofs made of tar, gravel, slate, ruberoid, tin, copper, and galvanized metal. They spread tar or asphalt over roof surfaces and apply roofing felt and mineral surfaced roll roofing; repair built up roofing; cut roofing paper, asphalt shingles, and other roofing materials to fit roof corners, pipes and other objects; replace asphalt and slate shingles; repair skylights, ventilators, gutters, valleys, flashings, and ridges; keep work records. Roofers may operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties. All Roofers perform related work.
1)Holds a permanent (not provisional) competitive appointment or appears on a Preferred List for the title of Supervisor Roofer; and 2) is not otherwise ineligible. Must have a valid NYS drivers license and the license must be maintained for the duration of the employment.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
