Trades Generalist

A Trades Generalist performs journey-level work in one trade, and skilled and semiskilled level work in a combination of other trades in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Incumbents may supervise others in maintenance, repair, installation, and construction activities.

A Trades Generalist uses the hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment and measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the craft or crafts to which assigned.

-Working knowledge of methods, material, tools and equipment used in the craft or crafts to which assigned.

-Working knowledge of applicable standards and plumbing and electrical code regulations.

-Ability to use the tools, machines, equipment and material of the craft or crafts to which assigned.

-Ability to train and supervise others.

-Ability to plan and lay out work and diagnose problems.

-Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Typical work to include, HVAC maintenance/repairs, BMS monitoring, building construction/repairs, electrical installations/repairs, plumbing installations/repairs, fence and gate installations/repairs, concrete walk construction, drywall installation and finishing, interior and exterior building painting, landscaping and snow removal.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
