Within one (1) year of appointment the selected candidate will be required to hold and maintain both a NYS welding certification and a valid Class A driver's license.
Duties include but are not limited to: Candidates must have skilled experience in carpentry, steel fabricating, painting and operating gunite equipment; candidates must have experience in erecting scaffolding and be able to operate sandblasting equipment; candidates must be able to receive instructions from the Bridge Repair Supervisors 1 & 2 and be able to give oral instructions and advice to Bridge Repair Assistants and Trainees; and candidates must be able to supervise bridge repair sub crews on small bridge repair and maintenance projects such as repairing bridge railings and bridge deck holes. The selected candidate will also be required to perform snow & ice operations and be able to report within the maximum of one hour of call up.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Four years of full-time experience in a trade related to bridge repair, maintenance and construction under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in a bridge or technical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated; candidates must be One-Person Plowing (OPP) certified to perform Snow & Ice Operations during the winter season; when required to perform on NYSDOT projects, candidates must possess a NYSDOT Certified Welder in shielded metal arch welding, vertical position and unlimited thickness.
