Within the Office of Health Insurance Program's Division of Eligibility and Marketplace Integration, in the Bureau of Consumer Relations & Local District Support, the Office Assistant 1 provides essential clerical support to ensure smooth Medicaid disability review operations. They work in the Medical Evidence Gathering Group (MEGG) within the State Disability Review Unit.
Primary duties center on high-volume mail operations-including opening, logging, sorting, and distributing incoming medical evidence and sending outgoing unit notices-and maintaining unit supply inventories, specifically ordering and stocking paper, toner, and scanner maintenance kits to keep office equipment running without disruption. Additionally, the role performs routine data entry to log application details and incoming records using Client Identification Numbers (CIN), answers incoming telephone calls, and assists with general administrative tasks across the unit.

Reassignment or Transfer: Current New York State employee with permanent or contingent permanent, competitive status as an Office Assistant 1, Grade 6, OR a New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent permanent, competitive, service in a title at or above Grade 4, and deemed eligible for transfer to Office Assistant 1, Grade 6, under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred candidates will have professional experience in public health insurance programs, including New York’s Medicaid, Medicare and/or Child Health Plus.
Preferred candidates will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong analytical skills and attention to detail; strong organizational skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access); the ability to work well independently and as part of a team, and to manage multiple priorities in order to meet deadlines; and experience using electronic data systems, such as eMedNY and NYSOH Back Office. Supervisory experience is a plus.
