Job description

Hours: Full-Time – 35 Hours Work Location: 777 Third Avenue, Manhattan, NY The Department of Design and Construction, Borough Based Jails (BBJ) Program seeks a Project Coordinator. The selected candidate will be the point of contact with various project stakeholders, including community groups though the Community Construction Laison (CCL) offices, throughout the planning, scoping, design, and construction procurement phase and assigned projects at various design and construction stages. The Project Coordinator will also evaluate project plans and specifications; follow up on completion schedules; appraise the Project Executive of scheduling, construction, and design issues, help keep costs within budget, and liaise among Design-Builders, DDC and all project stakeholders, including community groups, as well as the BBJ CCL offices throughout the four BBJ project sites. Other duties include maintaining comprehensive project history files, help coordinating project schedules, addressing construction and design issues, interfacing and coordinating program management with community stakeholders via the CCLs, reviewing pertinent project documentation, reviewing project correspondence and reports. In addition, the selected candidate will be responsible for utilizing the agency’s technical resources to ensure that the projects meet BBJ design-build program objectives.

Please note: All candidates must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.). In compliance with Public Law 99-603, candidates are required to present original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work in the U.S. DDC is unable to support or sponsor any visa application or visa extension, including but not limited to OPT/STEM visas, H-1B visas, F-1 practical training, permanent residence sponsorship, or any proposed change of visa type. DDC does not offer a training program as required by U.S. immigration law and is not hiring temporary employees. Candidates must have proper work authorization when an employment offer is made.

Additionally, educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution. Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service. Minimum Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

Candidates should have the ability to manage construction managers; complete multiple multi-trade projects on schedule; possess strong computer, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills; and must be attentive to details.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
